How to properly pack packages?

With tips on how to properly pack your shipments, Overseas Express wants to prevent any damage to the package. Follow the simple instructions which will help you to properly package the products you are sending to the recipient. It is in your best interest to properly pack the goods you are sending so that they are not damaged, because a well-packaged parcel is safe from damage.

The sender is obliged to package each parcel in such a way as to protect its value and to prevent damage. The choice of packaging material and the method of packaging must correspond to the content, type, dimensions, weight and value of the goods and the length of the shipping route.  Properly packaged parcel protects the goods during transport and allows the shippment to arrive at its destination in a safe way. Transport manipulation is performed by industrial technology, and therefore we do not recommend sending packages that are not suitable for transport on the conveyor belt. Overseas Express assumes responsibility only for those parcels that are properly packaged.

In order to adequately pack the parcel, pay special attention to the following:

  • The cardboard must be strong and undamaged and must be able to withstand the weight of other packages in transport. It is not recommended to use cardboard that was previously wet, even if it is dry at the time of packaging.
  • The content you are sending must not touch the outer cardboard (place the contents in the middle of the box a few inches away from the outer edges of the box).
  • Cover the goods with styrofoam, foil, bubble wrap or similar material to avoid movement of the contents inside the package during the transport.
  • Glass products must not touch each other. The bottles must be separated from each other by partitions from top to bottom and additionally lined with cushioning material.
  • If you are sending liquids, be sure to pre-pack them in an airtight bag (nylon, etc.) so that even in case of damage, spilled contents would not damage the rest of the contents of the package or other packages.
  • Make sure one person can handle your package on their own.
  • Pack the goods so that they can be transported in any position, so the safety of the package does not depend on the position.
  • If you are sending objects of unusual or irregular shape, all sharp edges and protrusions must be wrapped and tightened so as not to damage other packages during transport.
  • If you use used cardboard packaging, it is necessary to remove all old labels and package markings in order to deliver your package on time to the correct delivery address.
  • Glue, adhesive tape, etc. can be used to close the package, depending on the type and value of the contents.
  • Consignments delivered in a sealed envelope must be secured so that their contents or a part of it cannot be removed without visible damage to the envelope and the means of closing the consignment (adhesives, adhesive tapes, etc.).
  • If you do not have the original packaging, it is recommended to put the item in a larger box that can be filled with styrofoam and hard cardboard in several layers to completely eliminate the possibility of damage.

The goods on the pallet should be stacked and protected as follows:

  • The goods on the pallet must be packed in appropriate packaging, the heaviest goods or boxes stacked on the bottom of the pallet, and the lighter goods on top.
  • Goods or boxes must not exceed the dimensions of the euro pallet, and the entire contents of the pallet must be protected by a transport foil.
